About the Team

The Competitive Team

Our competitive team is a nationally-recognized college bowling team that competes in United States Bowling Congress (USBC) sanctioned tournaments. While we are a club-level sports team at RIT, we compete at the highest level of college bowling (men’s bowling is not an NCAA sport). Many of our opponents receive full sponsorship from their schools’ athletic departments.

We typically compete in approximately 10 tournaments per season, in addition to several postseason events. We travel across the northeastern US for our tournaments, frequently going to places such as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. The college bowling season runs from September through February, with the post season extending into April. For a complete schedule of our season, check out the Events page.

Every fall, we hold tryouts to determine the initial ranking of our competitive team members. However, we are typically able to take everyone on the team, regardless of their tryout scores. Following tryouts, the team holds two practices per week during the season. Our current home for practices is Brockport Bowl, in Brockport, NY.

The Recreational Club

If tournaments aren’t really your thing, there’s no need to worry! The casual recreational portion of our club is a great place to come hang out with your friends on the lanes. The club typically meets once a week at the same time and location that the competitive team practices. Several of our competitive team members in the past have started out as casual club members, so if you’re interested in improving your bowling game, but you don’t want to commit to joining the competitive team, it’s a great place to start.

If you’re interested in joining either the competitive team or the recreation club, or you just want some more information, please send us an email at ritbowling@gmail.com.

Club Executive Board

The club is student-run, led by an elected Executive Board (E-Board) made up of current club members. The E-Board makes all decisions regarding the club’s administration, finances, travel plans, etc. We also receive assistance from a number of volunteer coaches, who lend their time to provide the club with coaching, advice, and leadership during practices and tournaments. For more information about our coaches, check out the Coaches page.
